Quakers and Methodists

Matthew Callow from Reading Meeting Outreach Committee gave a talk to thirty members of the Wesley Guild at Tilehurst Methodist Church. Our radical Quaker origins were presented in the context of the English Civil War, followed by the 18th century ‘hedge’, contributions to trade and industry, Victorian evangelicalism and mission, and our move towards liberal religion. We concluded with a discussion on the nature of contemporary Quakerism and the challenges and opportunities we face. Over tea, further discussion was had over the commonalities between Quakers and Methodists, especially our values and lives of faith.
