Talk about the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme

Christine Hayes gave us a talk in our Wokingham meeting about how the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme has been working in Wokingham. Christine explained that under this Government Scheme, Wokingham Borough Council has agreed to take five families who are refugees from Syria. A Steering Committee was set up and Christine is the Quaker representative.

The first family arrived in September 2016 and the fourth family has just arrived in September 2018.

Christine talked about the support structures these families are provided with to adapt to life over here, and conveyed a picture of the enormous change for each member of the family………..fathers, mothers, teenagers, and young children……..that it must be for these incomers fleeing from a war zone into Wokingham.
