Supporting our Muslim friends

The headline for a major article in the Newbury Weekly News on March 28^th was ‘Terrorism will never keep us apart’. The subheading was ‘Local community shows its support for Newbury Muslims in the wake of the shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand’. Several members of Newbury Quakers were at the forefront of a display of solidarity for local Muslims as they arrived at the mosque for Friday prayers on March 22^nd. This was deeply appreciated, and the group were invited in for the end of prayers. Placards held by Friends read: ‘In Friendship we Stand with you Against Hate’ and ‘In Solidarity with our Muslim Brothers and Sisters’. Imam Mobasshir Mushtaq said, “We really appreciate you coming here and showing solidarity at this time of sorrow.”
