Quakers and Methodists

Matthew Callow from Reading Quaker Outreach Committee gave a talk to thirty members of the Wesley Guild at Tilehurst Methodist Church. Our radical Christian origins were presented in the context of the English Civil Wars, followed by the 18th century ‘hedge’, contributions to trade and industry, Victorian evangelicalism and mission, and our move towards liberal religion. We concluded with a discussion on the nature of contemporary Quakerism and the challenges and opportunities we face. Over tea, further discussion was had on the connections between Quakers and Methodists, especially our shared values and lives of faith.
